Mitre has been compiling a list of Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) regarding IT security. Additionally, they have the Common Weakness Enumeration that provides a measurable set of software weaknesses from a myriad of sources to help with the understanding of vulnerabilities and lend assistance to selecting tools and processes (or developing them) to test for these weaknesses.
