Comment spam update

Since I installed the Math Comment Spam Protection Plugin, I have noticed a certain type of spam I had been receiving is now eliminated! I consider this an insanely positive result. I am getting only a third of what I received before, and it is the usual garbage.

Akismet catches all of it, but now just doesn’t have to work so hard.

In the hopes of eliminating some of the spam on this blog, I have added the Math Comment Spam Protection Plugin. I am curious to see if this reduces what is already being captured by other spam tools.

Not much gets through at all, but I want to see if this helps with the management of this blog.

Having someone with a PMI certification who doesn’t have the context of how it works in your organization — especially how it works around IT investments — doesn’t really buy you anything…

In the GCN.com article In-house training program takes managers beyond the basics, it sounds like the USDA is doing things right on changing the IT culture to move towards good project management.

They get that having a manager PMP certified doesn’t mean anything if the organization isn’t supporting good project management and doesn’t rely on having the certification be a silver bullet. Check out the article on their approach which addresses 3 major issues:

1. Addressing the need for culture change to allow for good project management
2. Involving executive management in the training and the importance of executive sponsorship
3. Aligning the program with OMB and NIST requirements and changes

Specifically, the report warns that Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, like most portal software, generates non-standard HTML that can be an issue for organizations wanting to employ standards-based designs. Also, SharePoint’s folder-based navigation doesn’t comply with traditional Web navigation standards, and the product offers very limited support for translation workflows.

I get a ton of comment spam on this site. I find it pretty funny, considering the isn’t a soul out there reading this other than the spam bots.

And technically they aren’t even reading. They are just posting through. I should put in a CAPTCHA or something in the comments area. Maybe with the new theme…

If it weren’t for spam I’d have no friends at all…

You need to read the story on the Best Buy/Geek Squad technician taping someone in the shower. abc7.com: Tech Accused of Videotaping Woman in Her Shower

First, what a sleezeball and an idiot this guy is. I love the fact that the young sister in the article was smart enough to grab the memory card out of the phone to snag the video. Then they tell their mom to stall the tech so the sheriff can show up.

Those are some smart kids…
